- GSMNP = 522,419 acres or 816 square miles
- There are close to 150 hiking trails that includes a 70 mile segment of the Appalachian Trail – around 800 miles
- I have completed an estimated 747.7 applicable trail miles with 15.2 miles to go – there are three closed trails at around 10.9 miles
- Total mileage during my goal year (to date) = 981.8 miles
April 14th - Ramsey Cascades - total miles = 8; applicable miles = 4; Hikers: Charles H. & Elise E.
April 7th - Thomas Divide/Sunkota/Martins Gap/Loop Trail/Deep Creek Horse Trail - (shuttle) - hikers: Mary D. & Elise E. with a shuttle provided by David S. - total miles = 22.8; applicable miles = 14.2 Post hike report: Great day out on the trail Saturday at Enloe/Hyatt/Beech Gap - thanks to everyone that joined us for the hike. We were all rewarded for some serious uphill with many wildflowers, great weather and an awesome lunch spot! It's likely I'll be hiking along Sunkota this Saturday - Thomas Divide/Sunkota/Martins Gap/Loop Trail/Deep Creek Horse Trail - 22.8 miles. This is a shuttle hike but I have it worked out so that David Smith and Daniel Feller will hike with me for a portion and then meet me down at Deep Creek where a car will be waiting (to take us back up to our car along Newfound Gap Road (Thomas Divide trailhead). It would be great to find one other hiker that might want to join me for this hike. It's mainly downhill but I will need both segments of Martins Gap. You could opt to hike one of the sections with me or both. Below are a few wildflower pics from this hike!
April 4th - AT/Welch Ridge/Cold Spring Gap/end section of Hazel Creek included High Rocks - (shuttle b/t Clingman's & Fontana Marina with Wed. Maragaret Stevenson hikers - we were picked up at Ollie Cove) - I also picked up a .7 on Lakeshore at it's junction with Hazel Creek (spur that goes out to boat docking area) - total miles = 24.8 miles; applicable miles = 14.2
